Arty Saturday- Disney Sketches

I completed these Disney sketches just before Christmas as they formed part of my present for my 3 sisters, for each I chose one of their favourite Disney films for inspiration.

The first I did was Ariel and Erik from The Little Mermaid. This was my first time drawing characters from this film, and it turned out quite well. This scene is when Erik discovers Ariel on the beach after she has been transformed into a human and the cost of her voice.

The second I did was Jack and Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas. The style of animation here was quite different from The Little Mermaid, being darker with stronger lines and patterns.

The third piece I did was from Lilo and Stitch, which again has a different style with more rounded and soft animation than The Nightmare Before Christmas. This was an image I found on pinterest and chose because of how cute Stitch is!

I also drew a picture of Aurora from Sleeping Beauty for myself, this is a sketch of when she is Briar Rose, and unaware of her true identity as Princess Aurora. This style of animation is much more classic and fits the 1950's style of its time perfectly. Unfortunately the sketch got a little damaged by some oil pastels...

Top Ten Fashion Icons: Cate Blanchett

Sleek, structured and sophisticated, but with an experimental twist. Cate has such a varied number of styles and pieces to choose from, and it is always interesting to see what she will be wearing next, especially on the red carpet.

Top Ten Fashion Icons: Scarlett Johansson

Scarlett Johansson has to be one of my favourite icons and has great range in her choice of clothing that  accentuates her femininity and gives her own take of the trends and styles of the time. She isn't afraid to wear bright and bold colours or to add life to paler shades, and dresses perfectly for her shape in both classic cuts and more modern styles.

Ten of the best movie soundtracks

This was a difficult post to create as there are so many wonderful pieces of music to choose from, thus this post is just a sample of some of my favourite movie soundtracks.

POTC- "Marry Me" - Hans Zimmer
This suite is a previously unreleased track from the POTC: Soundtrack Treasures Collection, and comes from the third film: At World's End. I love all the different themes that it encompasses from the film, and it is a perfect piece to listen to when studying.

LOTR- "Lord of the Rings Suite" - Howard Shore
The Lord of the Rings is a favourite of mine, and I believe that Howard Shore created a soundtrack as diverse and enchanting as the films and books themselves. From the elven melodies to the sharp contrasts of Sauron and the orcs the music from this franchise has so much to offer to any listener.

My Best Friend's Wedding- "Garden Chase"- James Newton Howard
This piece captures the exciting end chase of the film adding to the humour and pace of the scene. It is sums up this film so well for me, and makes me want to watch it again and again!

The Young Victoria- "Letters from Victoria"- Ilan Eshkeri
This piece captures the new and blossoming relationship between Victoria and Albert and is my favourite piece from the film. It is delicate and graceful, but has a sense of uncertainty at the end, reflecting both the purity and complexity of their feelings for one another which others are trying to control.

Robin Hood Prince of Thieves- "Suite"- Michael Kamen
This piece is full of exciting  music, capturing the action and adventure of this film. I love to listen to it as motivation before I start an essay or uni work, and it also helps me get out of bed in the morning. This piece has been used on many adverts and film trailers, most recently by Disney, and is one of Kamen's best works.

Batman- "A Dark Knight"- Hans Zimmer
The score written for the latest Batman trilogy is full of adrenaline pumped themes and also softer and more sorrowful parts, both complementing the films perfectly.

Romeo + Juliet- "Balcony Scene"- Craig Armstrong
Hauntingly beautiful, this piece perfectly captures the passionate but doomed love of Romeo and Juliet. It is atmospheric and soothing, but also full of explosions of romance: it is a true and beautiful expression of this emotional tale.

Titanic- "The Portrait"- James Horner
This piece is one of my favourites to both listen to and play and its beauty is in its movement and flow. This is a great piece to listen to when you are drifting off into a pleasant daydream or going to sleep.

Last of the Mohicans - "Cora" - T. Jones and R. Edelman
The music of this film enhances both the films setting and the stories of the characters, developing their emotions in a way that words can not.

Peter Pan - "Flying"- James Newton Howard
This is one of those magical pieces that captures both the childhood fantasies of the listener and the excitement of the scene with the music reflecting the happy thoughts, and pinch of pixie dust, that Peter uses to teach Wendy, John and Michael to fly.

Top 10 Fashion Icons: Diane Kruger

Diane Kruger

From floating, Greek-style gowns, to trend setting edgy combinations of new materials, colours and silhouettes, Kruger both embraces trends and adds her own twist.
This beautiful gown has delicate lace and embroidery

I love the colour and textures of this dress, making it a fun and elegant outfit

This Chanel dress is flirty and timeless with it's classic silhouette and pure powder blue colour.

Hans Zimmer is one of my favourite movie score composers, not only because of the way he captures the soul of some of my favourite films, but also because of the range of styles and instruments he uses.
